My name is Jim Yeager. I am a retired educator and coach. I am a member of the Robinson-Kell Chapter of the Society for American Baseball Research. I have two books on Arkansas Baseball History in print, and in 2024, I was inducted into the Arkansas Tech Hall of Fame.
I have been a Rebel, Apache, Little John, Gator, coach of the Golden Suns, and of course, a Hillbilly!
My wife, Susan, and I live in Russellville, Arkansas, near our two sons. I love baseball in all its forms, but I especially enjoy researching the days when baseball was “Arkansas Game.”
If you are here for the first time, you have missed 142 posts and a few dozen “updates.” Don’t worry, here they are. You can pick and choose or search for a story about Arkansas baseball in the 20th century.

Questions and answers:
There is no cost to subscribe to Backroads and Ballplayers Weekly, and there is no catch. I have two books in print, and I write a monthly piece in the amazing online magazine Only in Arkansas (also free). Backroads and Ballplayers Weekly is designed to save stories about Arkansas baseball’s colorful history. Each post is short enough to read in under 15 minutes.
I have some friends who write more detailed and targeted blogs posted to Substack. Please consider both the free offerings and the paid subscriptions.
Rather than my column, I like to think of Backroads and Ballplayers Weekly as a meeting place for a community of folks who help save the lost stories of Arkansas baseball history.
