Bill Dickey in Only in Arkansas, Rollie Stiles Curtain Call,

Bill Dickey was born in Bastrop, Louisiana, but in Arkansas, we have let that go. Dickey’s story was my May feature in Only in Arkansas. Please read and share.
Ya’ll Come on Down and Play Some More!
A Fundraiser in Hoover!
I waited until Friday to update, hoping there would be an SEC story about something other than Texas winning the regular season title. That subject has expired. I can’t bring myself to look forward to the get-together the conference will stage this week down in Hoover.
It has some value if you like losing. The SEC has created the ultimate “Losers’ Bracket.” Every team in the SEC except the one that stages some sort of half-hearted dog pile will get to end their season with a loss.
This post-season extravaganza will mercifully end Sunday, May 25, at about 6:00 P.M. when the NCAA Selection Committee is enjoying some kind of cocktail hour.
Here is your 2025 SEC Baseball Tournament Bracket…Drumroll
Fun Facts:
Missouri, you play Tuesday right after breakfast. You might want to pack.
Good News: Tickets are available for every game! Just sit where you like.
LSU fans actually think this is a big deal. Party Time!
Preseason #1 Texas A&M may have to win this thing to get to the NCAA Tournament.
The final game will be on ESPN II. Thankfully for the SEC, there is no conflicting MMA.
The 2025 NCAA College Baseball Championship field will be announced tentatively at 12 p.m. ET on Monday, May 26, on ESPN2.
Rollie and other Old Folks
I received a very nice response from Rollie Stiles’ niece referring to this week’s post about “Old Folks.” Rollie not only reached his 100th year, but he also spent about a year as Major League Baseball’s oldest living player. His life is a lost story about an amazing Arkansan. Read about Stiles’ curtain call and other tales about Old Folks in this week’s Backroads and Ballplayers Weekly.
